An airy “Nobody Can Save Me” resembles something from Owl City. “Good Goodbye,” featuring Pusha T and Stormzy, is reminiscent of ‘NSync’s “Bye Bye Bye,” and “Sharp Edges” wouldn’t sound out of place on a Shawn Mendes album.

The title of the first single, “Heavy,” featuring Kiiara, might give fans of “Hybrid Theory” hope. But instead of pneumatic drumming and dark shards of screamed vocals, it’s not hard at all — it’s like listening to The Chainsmokers. Linkin Park did warn us that this might be possible. The band’s 2002 release “Reanimation” drifted into electronic sounds and 2012’s “Living Things” had pop-friendly sensibilities. All bands evolve — think of U2, Genesis, The Clash, Liz Phair or Taylor Swift — but this for Linkin Park fans may be more akin to Bob Dylan going electric.

Vocalists Mark Wakefield and and bassist Kyle Christner are former members of the band. Formed in 1996, Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut album (2000), which was certified by the in 2005, and in several other countries. Their following studio album continued the band's success, topping the album chart in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work. Having adapted and to a radio-friendly yet densely layered style in Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the band explored other genres on their next studio album, (2007).

Linkin Park continued to explore a wider variation of musical types in their fourth album, (2010), layering their music with more sounds. As the best-selling band of the 21st century and one of the overall, Linkin Park has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and has won two. Linkin Park went into an indefinite hiatus after longtime lead vocalist Bennington died from on July 20, 2017.

The three attended in, a suburb of Los Angeles. After graduating from high school, the three began to take their musical interests more seriously, recruiting, Dave 'Phoenix' Farrell, and Mark Wakefield to perform in their band, then called Xero. Though limited in resources, the band began recording and producing songs within Shinoda's makeshift bedroom studio in 1996, resulting in a four-track demo tape, entitled Xero. Tensions and frustration within the band grew however after they failed to land a record deal. The lack of success and stalemate in progress prompted Wakefield, at that time the band's vocalist, to leave the band in search of other projects. Farrell also left to tour with Tasty Snax, a and band. After spending a considerable time searching for Wakefield's replacement, Xero recruited Arizona vocalist, who was recommended by, the vice president of Zomba Music in March 1999.
